Kingston, Jamaica — The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) extends heartfelt support and best wishes to Miss Trelawny Festival Queen 2025, Selena Angus, who will be unable to participate in the National Festival Queen Coronation, scheduled for Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston, due to a sudden medical emergency.

Miss Angus was one of thirteen parish queens in Kingston actively preparing for the grand coronation and had been fully engaged in all national activities. She participated in official courtesy calls, took part in rehearsals, and was poised to represent Trelawny with grace and pride on the national stage. Following a recent medical evaluation, however, her doctors have advised that she remain under their care and refrain from further participation in the competition.

“Our hearts and prayers are with Selena during this time, as she steps away from the competition based on her doctor’s recommendations,” said Mr. Lenford Salmon, Executive Director of the JCDC. “Her courage and commitment have been nothing short of inspiring. While we will deeply miss her presence on stage, her health and well-being are what matter most. She remains a shining example of the Festival Queen spirit, and we stand fully beside her as she recovers.”

Throughout this journey, Selena has exemplified grace, enthusiasm, and determination; qualities that continue to inspire not only her fellow queens but also the wider JCDC team. Her willingness to rise to the occasion and step into the national spotlight with humility and strength reflects the true essence of Jamaican resilience and cultural pride.

“We understand that this news will come as a disappointment to many who have followed her journey, but we ask for the public’s continued prayers and support as she focuses on rest and recovery,” Mr. Salmon added. “The entire JCDC family, along with the Festival Queen network, stands in full solidarity with her and her loved ones during this challenging time.”

The remaining twelve parish queens have also extended their best wishes to Selena as they continue preparations to proudly represent their parishes on August 2 at the National Indoor Sports Centre. The shared sentiment among the contestants is that while Selena’s absence will be deeply felt, her spirit remains present in this celebration of Jamaican womanhood, service, and cultural pride.
The JCDC wishes Selena a full and speedy recovery and remains confident that this is only a brief pause in what promises to be an extraordinary and impactful future.
