Kingston, Jamaica — Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has announced that entries for the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's (JCDC) 2027 competitions will officially open on Sunday, November 1, 2026. She is challenging more Jamaicans to discover, develop and take their talents to the “Next Level.”

The announcement came during her address at the 2026 Marcus Garvey Awards for Excellence in the Performing Arts, held at the Little Theatre in Kingston on Thursday, October 15, where outstanding performers were recognised for their achievements in the National Festival of the Performing Arts.

“As Jamaica prepares to celebrate 65 years of Independence in 2027, I want even more Jamaicans to have the opportunity to begin that journey,” Minister Grange declared.

The opening of entries will include the National Festival of the Performing Arts, Jamaica Festival Song, Jamaica Gospel Star and Miss Jamaica Festival Queen competitions, providing opportunities for individuals, schools, institutions and community groups across Jamaica to showcase their talents on the national stage.

The announcement reinforces the Minister's call for Jamaica's cultural and creative sectors to raise standards, expand opportunities and create new pathways for talent development.

“This is precisely why I have been challenging every sector of my Ministry, and indeed our entire cultural and creative community, to take what we do to the Next Level. We must continue to raise our standards, expand opportunities and create pathways through which Jamaican talent can develop, excel and make its mark, both at home and internationally,” she said.

Highlighting the JCDC's longstanding role in nurturing Jamaican talent, Minister Grange noted that the Commission's competitions provide much more than an opportunity to perform. Through participation, Jamaicans gain confidence, develop discipline, refine their artistic abilities and build connections that can open doors to future success.

She also recognised the contribution of established cultural practitioners who continue to support emerging talent through mentorship, adjudication and other forms of service, demonstrating how the JCDC connects generations of Jamaican performers.

She urged the awardees to draw on their experiences to encourage other Jamaicans to participate in the competitions, noting that the next generation of outstanding performers may be waiting for a chance to discover their potential.

“Somewhere in Jamaica, there is another extraordinary talent waiting for an opportunity, another young Jamaican whose journey to greatness may begin with the confidence to enter a JCDC competition,” the Minister said.

As Jamaica prepares to celebrate its 65th anniversary of Independence, the JCDC is encouraging Jamaicans of all ages to seize the opportunity to showcase their talents and take the next step in their creative journeys. Information on entry requirements and competition deadlines will be available on the JCDC's website and social media pages.
